Dead Feathers: Chicago's Psychedelic Rock Band

Dead Feathers, based out of Chicago, Illinois, has been making a name in the psychedelic rock scene since their formation. Their music combines the heavy vibes of the '60s and '70s with modern underground psych rock.

The band, led by the powerful vocals of Marissa Allen, along with Tony Wold and Tim Snyder on guitars, Rob Rodak on bass, and Joel Castanon on drums, has grown from their 2016 EP to full-length albums like "All is Lost" in 2019.

Their latest album, "Full Circle" from 2023, shows a band that's maturing yet keeping their core sound. It's filled with tracks that blend soulful singing with fuzz-laden guitars, creating an atmosphere that's both dreamy and grounding. Songs like "Daughters" and "Robbery" have become fan favorites, showcasing their ability to mix emotional depth with heavy rock.

Dead Feathers' music is all about the journey, taking listeners through a psychedelic landscape with every guitar riff and drum beat. They've toured extensively, gaining followers across North America and Europe, often sharing stages with bands like Kikagaku Moyo and All Them Witches.

Their live shows are known for their energy, where the band's chemistry on stage brings the music to life in a way that's hard to capture on record. Dead Feathers have a way of making every song feel like an exploration, inviting you into their world of heavy, hypnotic rock.

Around 2014, I noticed rock music starting to sound cookie-cutter, over-polished, and pop-inspired, as if it had lost its soul and become corporate and profit-driven. That led me to seek out bands with a raw, authentic rock sound, which inspired the creation of Cowboy's Juke Joint Radio.
